Duly Quoted: Councillor Jim Karygiannis, on Beyoncé

The city councillor stops short of calling for a ban on Beyoncé entering Canada.

“Perhaps Immigration Minister John McCallum should have [Beyoncé] investigated first?…If someone wore bullets and supported (a radical group) here, they would not be welcomed in the United States—that’s for sure.”

—Jim Karygiannis (Ward 39, Scarborough-Agincourt) weighs in on Beyoncé Knowles’ appearance at halftime of Super Bowl 50, and expresses concern over her homage to the Black Panthers. Karygiannis added that he wouldn’t ban her from entering Canada based on her halftime appearance, but would if an inquiry found out that she or her backup dancers had supported the Black Panthers financially.
