Family, Friends, and Fellow Officers Honour Constable John Zivcic

Thousand gathered at today's public memorial.

A memorial service was held today for Constable John Zivcic, 34, who died last week as a result of injuries he sustained during a car accident on November 30. At the time of the collision, Zivcic, 34, had been responding to a call about an impaired driver. The six-year veteran of the Toronto Police Service was remembered today by his family, dignitaries, and police officers from across North America.

I’m sorry, call me rude, but I have to ask this again: Why was our most internationally infamous substance abuser and impaired driver allowed within 3 blocks of this officer’s funeral?

Reminder: this officer died in the line of duty while pursuing an impaired driver.

Let’s be perfectly clear: the mayor was there for a photo-op. He wanted Ford Nation to see the cops are perfectly ok with his well-documented legal transgressions. Forgive and forget? He doesn’t give a rats ass about the police, won’t give them the time of day, and didn’t think twice about scooting back and forth across this city in a two-ton land barge while half in the bag, endangering everyone in his path. This went on for months while he was under active police surveillance, and perhaps for many years before, when he wasn’t. There’s no guarantee it won’t happen again. He’s getting away with it.

    Why, why, why?
