Scene: Al-Quds Day in Toronto

An anti-Zionist protest group took to Toronto's streets.

WHERE: Queen’s Park

WHEN: Saturday August 3, 3 p.m.

WHAT: Al-Quds Day, an annual day of anti-Zionist protest observed mainly in Iran (but also in other countries around the world) came to Toronto over the weekend when around 200 supporters convened on Queen’s Park for a rally. The protesters, whose aim was to decry Israel’s treatment of Palestinians, were joined by a smaller faction of pro-Israel protesters. Both groups marched to the courthouse on University Avenue.

It’s like that one episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

You’re kind of missing the story here, no? Here’s a quote from one speaker, suggesting that Jews have to be driven out of Israel: “We say get out or you are dead. We give them two minutes and then we start shooting and that’s the only way they’ll understand.”

    Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB57xrpe-yQ&feature=player_embedded#at=24

    • OgtheDim

Soooooooo many points……………so done again and again every time there is an article about Israel in the Globe.

    • torontothegreat

“Jews have to be driven out of Israel”

No. Zionists have to be driven out of Israel. Learn the difference.

      • CaligulaJones

Many would consider ALL Jewish Israelis to be Zionists of a
sort…where would your Zionist-hating zombie army drive them TO,
        exactly?

I’m sure your co-haters on the extreme right could mosey up some kewl armbands for your uniforms, though.

        • torontothegreat

And many would be wrong. Being a Zionist is a choice and a fairly new concept, being a Jew is neither. Israel is a mix of zionists and non-zionists.

And did you just call a Jew a nazi? My grandmother was killed by Nazi’s and most of my family is non-existent because of those fucktards, you fucking piece of shit, ignorant fucking hick.

You do realize Zionist are the “extreme right”? Right? Wait, clearly you don’t. How does it feel to be an ignorant, knuckle dragger?

You invoked Godwin’s law. Game over.

        • tyrannosaurus_rek

“Many would consider ALL Jewish Israelis to be Zionists of a
          sort…”

That’s the propaganda of certain ardent pro-Israel parties who frame all criticism of Israeli government policy as anti-semitic/racist/religious hate speech. That doesn’t seem to be the context of the cherry-picked quote, however.

          • CaligulaJones

Actually, that is the propaganda of the very sponsors of the rally, who quaintly call Israel a “Zionist Entity”….

          • torontothegreat

“ALL Jewish Israelis to be Zionists” ≠ “Zionist Entity”

          • CaligulaJones

If you think that Iran (the sponsor of the rally) and Hizbollah (who many of the ralliers support) differentiate between non-Zionist and Zionist Israelis, you are the last person on earth to be able to call someone uneducated…

          • torontothegreat

Wow! You’re absolute ignorance is on display here!

None of the connections you’re making are remotely related in any way, shape or form.

Making racist statements about Persian and Lebanese people doesn’t make them so either.

First you said, that all “ALL Jewish Israelis” are Zionists, which is ridiculous. Then you tried to make a connection to the phrase “Zionist entity” and “ALL Jewish Israelis” are zionists. Now you’re trying to make a connection to the phrase “Zionist entity” and Jews living in Israel – who aren’t Zionists. Protip: Non-zionist Jews living in Israel do not differentiate between the Zionist entity and The State of Israel either.

Honey. Read a fucking book and STFU.

          • CaligulaJones

“You’re absolute ignorance is on display here!”

            …says someone “educating” me…

“Making racist statements about Persian and Lebanese people doesn’t make them so either and only shows how ignorant you are.”

The GOVERNMENT of the theocracy of Iran and the Shia movement called The Party of God (Hizbullah) have been historically hostile to Israel. Hizbullah rains Iranian-supplied missles onto it regularly, and went as far as Argentina to
            kill Israelis.

If you somehow get that my statements are racist, you’ve become completely unhinged.

“Let’s break your “claims” and “connections” down, shall we?

First you claimed, that all “ALL Jewish Israelis” are Zionists, which is ridiculous. ”

My exact quote: “Many would consider ALL Jewish Israelis to be Zionists of a sort.” I am not one of them. Someone claiming to be better educated than I am might have understood that if your education actually included reading comprehension.

The MANY I mentioned were, obviously, the people at the rally. You know, the ones with the Hizbullah t-shirts. You know,
the ones with the AK-47 on them. Peaceful types, I’m sure.

“Then you tried to make a connection to the phrase “Zionist entity” and “ALL Jewish Israelis” are Zionists.”

? Is there a contest you are in to post the most incoherent stuff you can think of? Since I didn’t say the later (see above, try to read better), I could not have said the former.

“Now you’re trying to make a connection to the phrase “Zionist entity” and Jews living in Israel – who aren’t Zionists. Protip: Non-Zionist Jews living in Israel do not differentiate between
the Zionist entity and The State of Israel either.”

? I guess you’re going for the gold medal in the Incoherency Olympics. I just presume you’re doping.

            Here’s the tldr version:

POSTER: Jews have to be driven out of Israel
YOU: Zionists have to be driven out of Israel.
ME: The people at the rally probably don’t know/care about
the difference between a Zionist and a non-Zionist Israeli.
            YOU: You are stupid
ME: Iran and Hizbullah don’t care about the differences and they sponsored the rally
YOU: You are stupid and racist

“Honey. Read a fucking book or travel outside of Grimsby
sometime before you open your ignorant mouth. It’s scary that people like you even have an opinion about such matters that you clearly don’t understand, but that’s the reason why Israel remains a colonial state, because people like you (who should be outraged) read things in a newspaper and act like some fucking expert on these matters.”

Considering your only expertise is having a dead grandmother, I’ll pass on your suggestion.

Educated, and well-travelled, thank you. You should probably
get over the fact that someone who disagrees isn’t necessarily otherwise.

But I will certainly read any book you recommend. Start with
something that shows how you could possibly fulfill your goal (shared by religious fanatics and neo-nazis) to drive out the Zionists, yet somehow keep the non-Zionists, and still have a functioning, vibrant state like Israel.

I’m sure it will be written in crayon.

          • torontothegreat

I think it would have to be written in crayon just for you to comprehend.

Here’s how people with a reading comprehension past a grade 4 level would read it:

Poster: They want the Jews to be driven out of Israel
ME: They want the Zionists to be driven out of Israel
You: Most people would consider them the same, you’re a nazi
Me: Fuck you, that’s offensive, I’m Jewish
You: Well the sponsors called it a “Zionist entity” therefore my first statement stands true, also the Iranians and Lebanese hate Jews, because they hate Zionism and are too stupid to know the difference.
Me: The 2 have no connection, also it’s racist to claim that nations that are opposed to zionism hate Jews and can’t discern the difference.
You: But, But, But they shoot missiles! They wear t-shirts with AK-47s! Terrorists! I’m smrt! I travel! I went to school! You’re dumb! You know nothing because you only know what your Grammy told you!

The fact that you eluded that I’m a Jew-nazi because I’m opposed to zionism as YOUR FIRST reply to me and had an expectation of any sort of meaningful conversation, shows that you’re an ignorant, knuckle-dragging, uneducated twit that should do a bit of research before opening up their fucking mouth.

Is the ketamine in Grimsby really that good?

          • Guest

“You’re absolute ignorance is on display here!”

            …says someone “educating” me…

OMFGBBQWTF!!!!!! A spelling mistake!!!????? HOLY SHIT, STOP THE PRESSES! You really got me!

          • tyrannosaurus_rek

If a nation’s government is largely Zionist, and its policies enforce that position, isn’t it a Zionist entity? You’ve yet to show that all Jewish people or Israeli citizens are Zionists, so I think it ends there.

          • CaligulaJones

So Canada is a conservative nation? After all, our government is conservative, and its policies certainly enforce that position….

            Try again.

          • tyrannosaurus_rek

Try harder. “Conservative” isn’t comparable to Zionist any more than “liberal” is to Anarchist. Words, they have meanings.

          • CaligulaJones

Indeed. Try parsing what the words “government” and “nation” mean sometime and get back to me.

Iran refers to the entire STATE of Israel as a Zionist Entity, regardless of the government.

          • tyrannosaurus_rek

First, there’s no such thing as “the state of Israel” independent of its government. States do not exist without governments.

Second, Zionism and Judaism are different things – a distinction even Iran (as the home the largest Jewish population in the ME outside Israel) makes in its constitution, extending special protection to Jewish citizens and guaranteeing them a seat in parliament.

          • CaligulaJones

“States do not exist without governments.”

            See: Somalia

You seemed to have pulled the rest of your post from Ahmadinejad’s op-ed in the Guardian.

I’m sure the constitutional protection helps the 8,700 left (down from the 150,000 in 1948, and 80,000 in 1979. That’s what statisticians like me call a “trend”.)

The remainder seem to have developed some sort of Stockholm Syndrome: “”Whatever they say abroad is lies – we are comfortable in Iran – if you’re not political and don’t bother them then they won’t bother you” (JFGI).

            Wow. Such freedom…

And that SINGLE seat must be a great comfort to them. Maybe Elizabeth May can give that MP some tips on how to be relevant. Of course, there are Muslim members of the Knesset. To my knowledge, there is no constitutional limit.

Too bad that same constitution allows for someone to inherit all of a family’s property if he converts to Islam.

Again, you’ve yet to show how those Iranian-supplied, Hizollah-delivered munitions somehow miss those peace-loving, non-colonial, non-Zionist Israelis, and hit only those war-mongering, occupying Zionists…

          • tyrannosaurus_rek

            Try to stay on topic.

          • torontothegreat

If you’re a statistician, you should ask your school for your money back. Clearly you don’t understand what an unknown variance is.

“I’m sure the constitutional protection helps the 8,700 left (down from the 150,000 in 1948, and 80,000 in 1979. That’s what statisticians like me call a “trend”.)”

            Oh, but wait. Morocco.

            Jewish population in:

            1940: 250k++
            Today: 5,000

And the U.S. (especially GDubya) and Israel LOVE Morocco and the feeling is generally pretty mutual.

Gee, I wonder what happened in 1948 that would have created a statistical unknown variance (gee, there’s that word again)?

“Too bad that same constitution allows for someone to inherit all of a family’s property if he converts to Islam.”

Too bad Zionism spreads the propaganda that Israeli occupation is a God-given birthright, inheriting the land that belonged to others. All you have to do is move there, join the military (or your children can do that later!) and shoot some palestinians. Almost like a gang “jump-in”, voila! welcome to the club!

            Now, go away…

          • torontothegreat

Try parsing the words “crickets chirping”

    • emwatcher

You’re (more than) kind of misquoting the speaker, who targets Israelis rather than Jews. It’s still on the extreme side, but let’s stick to the facts.

P.S. Note the Jews in the video who repudiate Zionism.

*the sound of a can of worms opening*

  • torontothegreat

Wow, that’s one of the most disingenuous pieces of bullshit I’ve ever read.

Haredi’s are ultra-orthodox Jews, VERY conservative.

They are generally anti-zionist because they are intelligent enough to understand their own religion.

    The Three Oaths state:

    1) not to ascend to Eretz Yisrael (the Land of Israel) as a group using force;

    2) not to rebel against the nations of the world; and

    3) that the nations of the world would not persecute the nation of Israel excessively.

The majority of Haredi Jews do NOT accept ANY sort of payment from the government whatsoever as they do not recognize the State of Israel.

What you are speaking of are Agudat Israel and they believe that they should fight from within. They hold government positions and pay taxes and give into conscription.

You can’t have it both ways.
