  • Oxford Properties, one of several big developers salivating at the notion of building a casino in downtown Toronto, has released some new renderings [PDF, and also pictured above] of what its proposed Front Street gambling resort would look like. It all seems pretty nice, but then again, when has an architectural rendering ever not seemed nice?
  • Godfrey Chan and Jonathan Ng have put together a handy website that lets people rank and sort restaurants participating in Winterlicious. It’s called The ‘Licious Map, and it’s pretty neat.
  • If Finance Minister Jim Flaherty has looked a little pinkish to you lately, it’s not your TV: turns out he’s been suffering from a rare, non-life-threatening skin condition called bullous pemphigoid. Could this explain all the makeup?
  • Not helpful: even as real estate prices skyrocket, there is “weighty evidence” to suggest that construction companies have been colluding to drive up the cost of home foundations.
  • Also not helpful: Wladyslaw Lizon, a Conservative MP from Mississauga, is one of three ministers who have written the RCMP to request that some abortions be investigated as homicides.

put the casino near pearson. it has no place downtown.

  • OgtheDim

A casino with windows you can see out of and tell what time of day it is?

    Surely not…..

      They’re mirrors. See that loser?

Mississauga and Etobicoke: sink them together in the lake, an underwater horror tourism attraction.

  • treptower

As one of only 500 or so casinos in North America, this is guaranteed to be a HUGE tourist draw LOL!

Well I like their ideas for expanding the convention centre and hotels but a casino no thanks, there’s an entire entertainment complex called the city just outside their door at that location, a casino and its related entertainment and dining facilities to keep people in the casino as long as possible will hurt existing businesses in the area. I do think larger convention spaces with attached hotels will bring in more convention business to the city when ideally they’ll leave the convention centre/hotel complex to take in all the pre-existing entertainment and dining options downtown giving them a much needed financial boost.

We already have a casino at Woodbine anyways which compliments the horse racing there, if they want they can add more gaming tables there and expand its capacity, its a car centric area already and expanding that casino will do little damage to the city.
