WHERE: Philosopher’s Walk, just south of Bloor near Avenue Road

WHEN: December 6, 6 p.m.

WHAT: Yesterday Canadians marked the 23rd anniversary of the Montreal Massacre, when Marc Lépine killed 14 women on the École Polytechnique campus, out of his professed hatred of feminists. An annual candlelight vigil on Philosopher’s Walk is held to remember the victims of that shooting, and raise awareness of violence against women more broadly.

The victims of the Montreal Massacre: Geneviève Bergeron, Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Maryse Laganière, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Michèle Richard, Annie St-Arneault, Annie Turcotte and Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz.
