Extra, Extra: Heritage Minutes and Hooker Ads

Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

  • Heritage Minutes are back after a seven-year hiatus. The Historica-Dominion Institute has just released two of the 60-second shorts, one of which—about Richard Pierpoint, a former slave who recruited black men to fight in the War of 1812 (on the Canadian side, naturally)—is embedded above. The other one, about John Norton and the Grand River Warriors, does not seem to be online yet.
  • MADD appears not to be taking quite as charitable a view of Councillor Ana Bailão’s conduct in the aftermath of her alleged impaired-dirving incident as we did. The anti-drunk-driving organization is calling the Ward 18 councillor’s efforts at damage control “deplorable.”
  • For years, some analysts have been predicting doom for Toronto’s condo boom. The latest sales numbers don’t quite indicate an apocalyptic market collapse, but they definitely are more sobering than any in recent memory. If you’re renting your home, now might be a good time to keep doing that.
  • NOW Magazine sells a whole hell of a lot more ad pages than the The Grid—and that’s not even counting NOW‘s famous hooker-ad section. But The Grid, with no help from hookers, is closing the gap. How long before someone undercuts NOW with an all-hooker-ad weekly?

Hooker ads? There is such a demand for carpet hookers? I thought people are replacing broadloom with hardwood. Oh, wait. Of course, there will still be a demand for hookers for carpets, but for the small area rugs. Where can I find a Toronto carpet made by local hookers?
