Duly Quoted: Stewart Poirier

“I get a kick out of that, watching people get hurt.”

—Poirier is the serial arsonist who confessed, on Wednesday, to burning down the Empress Hotel, a heritage building that was once located near the intersection of Yonge and Gould streets. (It went up in flames on January 3, 2011.) The above quote, taken from the Star, is what the court was told Poirier said to police when questioned about another fire he set, elsewhere in the city. He has been convicted of at least one more arson, and has confessed to several others. Despite Poirier’s confession, the police investigation of the Empress Hotel fire continues.

I have a feeling this guy is a patsy. Developers had a costly heritage building they wanted gone. So they burned it. Police found an arsonist with mental health problems, twisted his words, and manipulated him into admitting to it. One easy way to close a case.

Right, because sociopathic arsonists don’t exist.
