Ford greeted the actors and gave them gifts—including, naturally, his business cards.
Three politicians prone to tragicomic foibles met for a photo-op yesterday afternoon, but two of them were only acting.
Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis—who play dueling US congressional candidates in their soon-to-be-released comedy, The Campaign—met Mayor Rob Ford at the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday. The actors arrived on a Zamboni, then mounted a stage with the mayor. Ford gave them each a miniature Stanley Cup, and also gifted them with some of his campaign paraphernalia: fridge magnets, bumper stickers, and, naturally, the business cards he is known for handing out to nearly everyone he meets.
The Toronto Sun reports that Ford gave Ferrell and Galifianakis some campaign advice. “It’s very simple—every person you meet hand out a magnet and business card and return people’s phone calls. Customer service is number one,” the mayor reportedly said.
After the event, the two actors walked a red carpet at the Scotiabank Theatre, before a premiere of The Campaign. Toronto was the final stop on an 11-city promotional tour.
The movie’s official release date is August 10.
