TTC Union Boss Says Mayor Ford Drove Past Streetcar Doors

A few more details about the run-in between a TTC streetcar driver and Mayor Rob Ford have emerged since we first mentioned the incident this morning. As TTC employees’ union president Bob Kinnear told the Star: “My understanding is that Mayor Ford bypassed an open door and the operator then got off the streetcar—left his seat anyways—to advise the motorist, not knowing it was Mayor Ford, of the seriousness of the violation, as well as the concern for our passengers.” Driving past the open doors of a streetcar is a violation of the provincial Highway Traffic Act. Most—if not all—streetcars have signs on their backsides and doors, warning motorists not to pass them. Kinnear said Ford lodged a complaint with the TTC afterward. It’s still not clear what actually transpired between the mayor and the driver. Kinnear has said only that Ford “had some comments for the operator.”

Team TTC driver. I make a point of giving the finger to anybody who does this.

Not that it makes a huge difference to this case or the fact Ford just keeps sinking lower, but I looked up the law just to check it. Apparently this law also applies to leading a horse past a streetcar or rail car in the centre of the highway. Good thing I stopped with my horse when we were walking down the 401 last week.

Since your comment doesn’t appear to be facetious, I’ll tell you that “highway” is the “H” in HTA and it refers to public roads.

Think the guy in the $3000 suit is gonna stop and wait for the streetcar doors to close? COME ON!

    • Antinephalist

Yeah, like the guy in the $4000 dollar suit isn’t going to tell the driver what an ass he is. COME ON!

I’ve yelled at Doug Ford (quickly confirmed by his vanity plates on the Navigator) for passing the open streetcar doors as I was getting off the Dundas Car. This does not surprise me in the least.

He was on his way to an emergency gypsy moth infestation?

so, he broke the law, potentially endangered people, got told about it by the driver and the has the audacity to call the driver’s boss and complain about getting told about it?
Wow. Is is there a device capable of measuring his arrogance and audacity?

How many times is Ford going to be allowed to break the law before he’s held accountable?

    Let’s be honest –
    1) There’s no way to nail people who drive past the doors. Streetcars need cameras the driver can clicky clicky on. Or, a webcam that uploads footage to a server that can be evaluated later. Probably all too expensive.
    2) Out of towners have no idea they’re supposed to stop – the pitiful little sign on the back of each streetcar’s grease-filled window is useless. The little stop signs on the doors that only become visible when the doors open are useless. Someone needs to fix this.
    3) Ford’s a clown.

The streetcars used to have cameras, and drivers would turn the film over to the police, who were supposed to warn people on the first infraction and fine them on the second.

Of course, the police actually do nothing, so drivers have little incentive to do anything with cameras.

Don’t streetcars still have the big window signs at the back?

If Rob Ford does something wrong, the people reporting the incident gets into trouble. What’s wrong with this picture?

If anyone sees Rob Ford, stay away. Far away. Especially, if he is breaking the law.

Next we’ll hear about passing a school bus with lights flashing, and the stop sign out….

Keep digging that hole, Tweedle Ford.

Ford called Andy byFord to complain for one reason and one reason only, – Stinz is front page with her “One City” transit plan for most of the week and his handlers don’t like it when a possible challenger in 2014 is in making headlines and the mayor isn’t! In politics, any news is good publicity. Just keep your name, front and center and most voters will think your busy doing a good job.

Ah, Ford. A nonstop shitshow of incidents that would have been the hallmark of patheticness for any other mayor, but our expectations are now so low and our senses so numbed that it barely registers. Lastman seems so competent and erudite in comparison.

And the worst part is that Ford will actually believe he was right. Again. And the Sun will agree with him.

Get this man child idiot out of office before he burns the whole city down.

I think that he’s already brought that to some measure of fruition by now.

Looking at the timing, it seems like Robbie was cuttin’ out of work early on Thursday afternoon.
