Spotted: The Actual Cover of Today’s Toronto Sun

SPOTTED BY: Newseum.org

WHERE: In newspaper boxes all over the city.

WHEN: This morning.

WHAT: So this is hell? It’s balmier here than we were expecting. And it has a Liberal minority government. Huh. We’d always thought it would be more of an autocracy.

Spotted features interesting things our readers discover in their journeys across Toronto. If you spot something interesting, send a photo and pertinent details to tips@torontoist.com.

    Should be their permanent masthead.

Speaking of which, they seem to have spent so much effort on getting the flames to look right that they screwed up the compositing on their own logo. Or is it always white text in a flat orange box against a circle filled with a red gradient?
      Spoiler: both answers are wrong.

That’s probably an artifact from the PDF-to-JPG conversion.

Not just your city. It’s also plastered all over the Ottawa Sun.

so, the will of the voters is stupid? dangerous? evil?

    f*ck you Toronto Sun.

so, the will of the voters is stupid? dangerous? evil?

[looks at who got voted in as mayor of Toronto] Sometimes!
I think it’s safe to assume that QMI was hoping for a Hudak victory, which, given the low and ugly campaign that he ran, would arguably have been the stupid and evil choice. They were pretending to be too cool for school and denied him their invaluable endorsement, but you can’t imagine them using the same headline if he’d won.
The poor Sun readership. It’s not just a Liberal government, it’s a minority government, and Sun readers are pretty sure that those darn minorities are up to something.

      f*ck you Toronto Sun.

Rarely the wrong thing to say.

Give them a break. The fizzling of Ford Nation must be pretty hard on them…

    • David Toronto

The fizzling of Ford Nation is nothing when one considers
that Sun TV News is going off the air at the end of October.
PK Peladeau doesn’t want to spend the money for the
digital conversion of the TV signal. Sun News TV
is already off the air in Ottawa.

Is there a news report about this? Would love to see the details (no scarcasm, promise).

        • Eric S. Smith

It seems that Sun News goes out over the air in a few markets, including Toronto, to trigger mandatory cable carriage (I’m guessing that the CRTC requires cable providers to carry local stations). Sun News is, absent over-the-air broadcasts, a mere Category B specialty cable channel.
If the first Wikipedia article that I link to above is to be believed, QMI is perfectly willing to keep broadcasting Sun News digitally, but the CRTC is on to their little trick and is threatening not to let them squat on scarce spectrum just to force their way in to cable and satellite packages.
So, Sun News will still be with us at least until Rogers, Bell, Cogeco, and so on tire of carrying them.

          Try this link: http://www.viewers.ca/discuss/showthread.php?t=6076

If that doesn’t work go to viewers.ca and look for the discussion
          page for independent stations.

This is my second favourite Sun cover ever (My favourite being the infamous BASTARDS! 9/11 cover).

  • Anonymous

I read this that the hell was on pages 2-9, plus the 8-page pullout.

Makes far more sense to me…

  • Anonymous

The Sun is a joke of a paper, with more sports coverage – half of which is giant colour photos for the reading-challenged – than everything else combined. And it’s a safe bet that if the Star or Globe ran a similar front page in the event of a Hudak victory, the Sun would blast them for bias.

    fair and balanced.

I wonder if this is the last step before Godwin’s Law is invoked.
