I agree, we have to start looking at what we could do with the Exhibition grounds. They're so empty and boring most of the time. Yet they also have so much grand architecture and potential.
I would propose creating a district of entertainment, culture, and residences, on a grid of canals connected with Lake Ontario. I'd like to see old Amsterdam-type streetscapes (canalscapes) and a low to midrise scale.
Whether you disagree with the merits of this napkin drawing of an idea, I just ask that you think big and bold. We don't have to recreate some area in Toronto that's already great, just adapt some of the principles of why they're successful, in a Jane Jacobs way.
