Panoramaist: Coronation Park

Panoramaist is the Toronto shoe-gazer’s worst enemy. In the virtual panoramas, created by Tony Makepeace, you can look up, down, side to side, in, and out—pretty much every direction but back at yourself, which would be kind of creepy.
Click the image above to jump to the panorama of Coronation Park, which the Toronto Star‘s Donald Jones in 1988 called “the least known of all the great war memorials in this city.” On Coronation Day, on May 12, 1937, Jones explained, 137 maple trees were planted in the park, “one for each of the 137 units that had been part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force”; on May 22, 1939, with another World War near, another 123 were planted along the road that would later be named Remembrance Drive, one for “each of the 123 public and secondary schools in the city.”
