Poll Position: With Rocco Rossi Out, Rob Ford Goes Up

Among decided voters:

  • Rob Ford: 44%
  • George Smitherman: 38%
  • Joe Pantalone: 16%
  • others: 2%

STILL UNDECIDED: 16%.
POLL TAKEN: On the night of Thursday, October 14, after Rocco Rossi dropped out of the race.
SAMPLE SIZE: 700.
MARGIN OF ERROR: +/- 4%, 19 times out of 20.
CONDUCTED BY: Forum Research, independently.
NOTES: Rob Ford’s lead, which an Ipsos-Reid poll had suggested had evaporated, is back—if still marginal. (As with all polls, however, it also means nothing.) The Globe and Mail and National Post have more details.

    Do what now?

I consulted Urban Dictionary and they had a number of suggestions as to your intention: fondle my testicles, fuck my tits, fuck my team, fuck my typing, fake mass text, fuck me tattoo, fuck my teeth.
So, my thinking is you may have meant “fuck my team”, as in, goddamn, I’m on the wrong fucking team. Also possible (less likely) is “fake mass text”, as if to somehow discredit the likeliness of the poll (perhaps conducted by text?). When I got to page 2, the explanation for “fuck my teeth” seemed the most likely, as it is a way of saying “well I’ll be damned”.
    Thanks, that was fun!

I found some of those too, as well as an abbreviation for ‘format’, as in ‘Aargh, delete everything and start over’.

I think it’s important to point out that the same firm (Forum Research) conducted a similar poll in early September, where the gap between Ford and Smitherman was 12 points (Ford: 34%; Smitherman: 22%). So if you are comparing apples with apples, Smitherman is gaining on Ford, not falling behind. It looks bad compared to the Ipsos Reid poll earlier this week, but the research company themselves state that Smitherman is closing the gap

Gah. I meant that to be a stand-alone comment. Fuck my team. What can I say I’m a n00b

Good lord, it must be fun to work for a polling company. Every time you publish results, the chattering classes go batshit insane, even though nothing of substance has actually happened.

Among undecided voters (which is more comparable to previous polls which give results as undecided voters) this works out to
    Ford 37
    Smitherman 33
    Pants 13.
    Und. 16.
Ford has been sitting at ~37 total for 2 months. Pants is up somewhat.
Smitherman has gained almost 10% in the last month. Ladies and gentlemen, this poll is good news. He has momentum, the poll bias (which misses “us” – youngish civically engaged downtowners without land lines) favours him, and strategic voting favours him.
Importantly, it seems that as the undecideds become decideds, their votes are going towards Smitherman (undecided = 25 -> 16 = -9%, smitherman 26 ->33 = +7%). Ford has not found significant traction among undecideds, his supporters picked their platform months ago while the other 65% or so is very fluid yet, and overwhelmingly favours Smitherman.
No need to be looking for apartments in Vancouver yet.

Why would any look for an apartment in Vancouver? Only the weakest are such bandwagon jumpers. Real Torontonians would brave it out for a few years, continuing their lives as usual. Since it’s not too late to make a difference for those next four years, be prepared to vote on the 25!

I’m with AR. Grow a pair.
When Americans make the same kind of threat, it’s either an empty vow to provoke a different outcome, or the few who actually do it get a cold reception from us for coming here. Their aim is less to make Canada a better place and more to make themselves a self-imposed exile until their country gets better somehow (which obviously can’t happen if their energies aren’t present). It’s selfish, self-serving, and petulant to think that one’s self-motivated departure is going to make the situation any better.
If you’re serious about Toronto, andrews, stay here and participate as a citizen to make Toronto a better place. If you’re not, then no one’s going to stop you from going wherever you want.
