City’s Latest Waste Drop-Off Locations Announced

As expected, the City has added nineteen new waste drop-off locations to their strike plan, and even threw together a fancy-pants Google Map including all of the sites, initial and newly-announced (above; click any marker to view more details about each spot) [UPDATE, 3:40 p.m.: The Star's web editor, Patrick Cain, of Map of the Week fame, also points us to his paper's equally fancy-pants Google Map]. The nineteen new sites, which include Christie Pits, Sunnyside Park, George Bell Arena, York Mills Arena, and Eglinton Flats, are all open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day of the week.

Any news or guesses on union activity at these sites?

I haven’t heard anything yet, but I assume that most would be picketed if they weren’t already—but that as more sites open, the effectiveness of pickets at any one site diminishes.

Are they allowed to block public access to public spaces like parks?

They currently have the right lane of Lakeshore (easterly) blocked off at ellis, right in front of the dump site. It looks like its setup up to be a car queue.
It’s going to cause some serious traffic headaches.

Legally, picketers cannot stop you from accessing a public space once you asserted you right to access that public space. Naturally, if there are a group of picketers, they aren’t likely to move out of your way any time soon.

I was in and out of Christie Pitts this morning in less than a minute. There were some people milling about, but I saw no placards.
There was a security guard there. I suppose that the city is worried about some violence erupting.
