"T-O-R-O-O-N-T-O"

Less than a month after Syrus and Randal's cheeky ode to the TTC was blowing up all over the place and receiving props from David Miller, another Toronto-anthem-in-the-making is circulating on YouTube and promising to elevate civic pride to crazy new heights. Flow 93.5 team member Ron Dias aka Ron D.'s "Toronto" video features him and apparent Dynasty fan Blake Carrington against a backdrop of familiar spots: Kennedy Station, Dundas Square, Queen West, and Kensington Market.

The track namechecks hometown heroes "Michie Mee, Kardinal, Jully Black, Saukrates, BBL, Brassmunk," and praises Toronto for its free health care, ethnic diversity, and excellent public transportation system. And, adorably, each verse is punctuated by the iconic sound of the subway door chimes. It's no "Bakardi Slang," but it's an authentic, likeable jam that probably won't fade from public consciousness anytime soon (Dias plans to put out an EP). So what if they're totally spelling Toronto wrong (on purpose, duh)? And where can we get one of those sweet "I ♥ T.O." shirts?

That's a sweet video and a good song, but I've got to say that T-Ode by Abdominal f. Notes to Self is a better toronto shout-out track. It really captures the flavour and texture of the city.

Hey, I wanted to point out that I originally misread Ron D.'s awesome T-shirt. It actually reads "1 ♥ T.O.," not "I ♥ T.O."

And to answering everyone's burning question, Ron will be selling the T-shirts (in a variety of colours) for $15 at www.torontofresh.com starting January 19th.

Eh, not keen on it, even if it's somewhat catchy. I didn't notice they were spelling "Toronto" with an extra "O" at first--singing "T-O-R...O-N-T-O" sounds fine, why not go with that?
