But Is It Art?

If dropping stuff off of a building is too high-concept for you, or if you still haven't decided whether or not to go see Blinkenlights at Nathan Phillips Square tonight for Nuit Blanche (or any other nuit until October 12) and that amazing iPhone app wasn't enough to sway you, boy, have we got the video for you.

Shot yesterday, not only does it depict the full awe-inspiring spectacle created by hundreds of remote-controlled lights filling the windows of our City Hall, it also might just be, as the poster of the video claims, the biggest Rickroll ever. Now there's a real reason for civic pride.

bah. i wish we saw that happening, instead of the pong and space invaders match that never seemed to end.

Nooo! video doesn't exist anymore.

Wait, nevermind, it's playing now.

Yeah, must have been a random snafu with clicking the link the 1st time, I fiddled around with it then it started playing. Weird.

Ha, that's kinda funny.

But why is there so much "art" these days that just
a) takes some commonplace, already-existing thing,
b) adds money and/or makes it bigger?

I was really disappointed by this installation. We spent a good 20 minutes there and all we saw was the never ending cycle of Pong and Space Invaders with the distracting circular thing going on in the background.

When our hurf-durf Mayor tests this out playing pong, it's not looking promising.

Then we get Rickrolled.

I'm ashamed, frankly, that is so over and done with. Probably played the complete video out too, no doubt.

I'm chundered.

I love it, yes it is art. With good Canadian Comic Relief mixed in. Wish I had seen it live. Maybe, like the big waterfall installed off a bridge in Edmonton from a special birthday celebration, they will PLAY it again and again on other special occasions.
