Canada's Defence Surprisingly Expensive, Edwards Endorses Obama, And Some People Just Don't Like Bins

The federal government's defence plan will cost $20 billion more than the federal government said it would cost, at least according to the Vice Chief of Defence Staff. Stephen Harper responded to the criticism by explaining that the country would be purchasing its planes and tanks through Canadian Tire, and that the Canadian Tire money generated by the purchases would be applied directly to the national debt, thus equalizing out costs.

Tory MP Jason Kenney complained that Romeo Dallaire was overly harsh when Dallaire criticized the federal government's handling of the Omar Khadr case. Kenney is a former general who is credited with using meagre resources to save the lives of over 20,000 people during the Rwandan genocide in the face of massive indifference from the west…no, wait, sorry, that was Dallaire. Jason Kenney is a lifetime party hack who didn't finish his bachelor's degree. See, they're almost like twins!

Lots of people don't like the city's recycling bin system and say the bins are "ruining the city." Also ruining the city: kids wearing big pants and listening to the rappity-hop music who will not get off of people's lawns, and why can't everything be like it used to be, and why can't somebody do something about all the problems?

John Edwards endorsed Barack Obama yesterday, presumably to make everybody forget about Obama's giant but likely meaningless loss in West Virginia, and also to demonstrate that white people could, in fact, vote for Barack Obama without turning into effete, latte-sipping pantywaists.

And Roy Halladay threw eight strikeouts in six and two-thirds innings to lead the Jays to victory over the Minnesota Twins.

Put Dallaire, Kenney and Harper in the same room and you'll have only one natural leader among them: Dallaire.

Wait a minute - wasn't Edwards drinking a macchiato when he was getting his $400 haircut...

@Davie E,

Good comment. Jason Kenney isn't fit to shine Romeo Dallaire's boots.

Dallaire is dead on in his assessment of how the Canadian government has handled the Khadr case. Canada should never support the illegal and immoral entity known as Guantanamo Bay.

What does Kenney's education have to do with this? Far worse people have more education (his boss, for one) and far better people have less education.

Kudos to Dallaire. If only he were PM...

Kenney doesn't know what he's talking about at all and doesn't deserve to sit in the same room as Dallaire.

@Mark0,

"If only he [Dallaire] were PM..."

Don't get my hopes up that way! Imagine Canada having a PM with balls, a leader who is actually accountable to all Canadians, a man who actually has conviction and integrity. Ahh...

But which party would he join?

Dallaire is a hero, and has immense credibility on topics such as this. Dallaire is dead on.

Apologies for quoting Douglas Adams, but .. "Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."

Dallaire is an impressive man I respect a great deal and a natural leader, and these same qualities are precisely why I doubt we would ever have him as the leader of our country.

I see about a dozen homes down the road from me that can't deal with the new bins. They have to roll them up several steps when full, so now they just leave them at the street all the time and fill them a bit at a time. It looks terrible, but it's their only solution.
Too bad the city isn't more flexible about allowing some to keep using the old method.

The new bins are unsightly and unmanagable. I followed the city's recommendation and ordered a large recycling bin. That thing is huge. Monstrous. Industrial-sized. We live in a row house so we have nowhere to put it but on the front porch. And it's a bitch getting up and down the front steps. I have a sore back and bruises on my legs to prove it.

I called the city to exchange it for a smaller one and was told that they won't exchange bins in Zone 2 until July 1.

The program seems to have been designed for suburbs with garages and lots of outdoor storage room. Not people who live in downtown Toronto. They're a blight on this already somewhat shabby-looking city.

Who's behind these monster bins? Talk about incompetence! They belong in certain areas of Toronto only.
