Olympic Torch Rally Controversy Continues, Ontario Government Does Suspicious Number Of Good Things, Jays Lose A Barnburner

torchrally.jpg
China vows to continue the international Olympic torch relay despite lots of protests. The International Olympic Committee suggested that they might do away with the international route in upcoming games, because from now on, all Olympic games will be held in authoritarian dictatorships and they “don’t want to look bad” when they award the next few Games to Zimbabwe, Uzbekistan, and the Equatorial Republic of Hate-Land. (The President-For-Eternity of Hate-Land responded by saying, “ooooooh, I hate the International Olympic Committee! And I hate you!”)
Ontario spends $14 millon to improve human rights bureaucracy. Well, we just don’t have a joke here. This is something that’s well overdue and needed to be done. Man, talking about Dalton McGuinty in a completely complimentary way feels weird.
Ontario, Métis reach agreement to give Métis more self-government. Again, good news that is well overdue. This feels wrong. Someone tell Torontoist that somehow the Liberals decided this polled well in Ajax or something like that?
Babies born in Ontario will now be screened for cystic fibrosis…okay, now it’s just getting spooky. Where is the mendacity? Where is the callous and blatant vote buying? Where is the inability to empathize with the little guy? Did the Liberals get replaced by good versions of the Body Snatchers or something?
Hospital cuts in Rouge Valley draw fire as Liberals refuse to cut “blank cheque” to save nurses’ jobs. Ahhh. That’s more like it.
And the Jays narrowly lost to the Athletics.

    You’re losing your edge, Bird.

Babies, a minority group among minority groups, and bureaucracy? Easy targets, c’mon.

I don’t know about up there, but down here in the USSA, the media coverage is interesting. China is almost made to look like the victim of these “big, bad rabblerousing protesters”. They give no background info on why we (they) are protesting, nothing about Tibet. America loves to say it loves the “underdog” but …
What I love is when you see cops in full body armor, armed to the gums and then they show unarmed women and young protesters…yet the cops have to be “prepared for anything”. Yeah, wouldn’t want to scratch your body armor on some protester’s teeth there, pal.
    America just hates protesters I guess. “Oh…no…protesters…they…want .. me….to…think……must…find…wallet…go….shop…ping…”(cha-ching) “That’ll be $29.99″.”Ahhhhh, I feel better.”
