Illustration Sunday: Hang ‘Em Out To Dry

The McGuinty provincial government last week announced an end to the clothesline bans that have been active in some Ontario communities. Now’s your chance to show off your unmentionables to the neighbourhood. If you don’t have a clothesline, you’re in luck: Toronto Hydro is giving away 75,000 clotheslines to Toronto residents over the next few weekends.

The clothes line ban–a covenant between a devloper and a municipality is at an end.
What other covenants do property developers have with towns and cities that stultify our neighbourhoods?
EP Taylor wouldn’t allow blue roofs in Flemingdon Park and condominium developers won’t allow–in some cases–Christmas wreaths on the front door of one’s own townhome.
How else do these developers exert influence and take away the sovereignty of home ownership?

I got one of those metal clothes drying racks this weekend to put out on the deck. Now I just have to deal with bringing wet clothes home from the laundromat.
