Toronto Rocks Miami

This weekend, Toronto was impossible to miss at Miami's Winter Music Conference and Ultra Music Festival.

Currently, five Torontonians occupy the number one and two and slots on the electro house chart on Beatport, which has become the de facto standard website for legally downloading electronic music, and a major player in the Winter Music Conference. Additionally, an Ontarian holds the number two spot on Beatport's tech house chart—Londoner John Acquaviva with "Sofa King." The number one electro house track, the provocative Hatiras remix of "Just the Tip" by Joey Seminara & Danny Nagels, featuring MC Flipside, jumped to the top spot ahead of Torontonian Sydney Blu's "Give It Up For Me" on Thursday. Chilling backstage at the 10th annual Ultra Music Festival, Flipside told Torontoist that "The track is not meant to have any sexual innuendo. The track is actually about the first time I experienced house music in the middle of a dancefloor. At that moment, you don't know where your life is going to take you. The beauty of the track is that it can be interpreted in many different ways. It's all about the magic of the vibe."

Toronto was even recognized at Miami's Club World Awards, as CiRCA was named the world's Best New Venue of 2007, and snapped up nominations for Best International Club, Best Video System, and Best Interior Design.

And Torontonians were plentiful on the lineups of both Ultra and the various Winter Music Conference parties, with Deadmau5 (above, with CN Tower cameo at 5:35), MSTRKRFT, Hatiras, JELO, Sydney Blu, Robb G, and MC Flipside, to name just a few. MSTRKRFT almost made up for JFK's comment about wanting to leave Toronto with ALP's proud closing shout-out: "We're MSTRKRFT from the city of Toronto."

looking at the nominees there didn't seem to be a lot of "world" in Club World... Club North America seemed more appropriate. Still, well done CiRCA - it's still good company to be in.

damn we're awesome.
