Panoramaist: The McLaughlin Planetarium

Contributor Tony Makepeace is taking us for some spins around our city with his fantastic VR panoramas. You can look up, down, side to side, in and out—pretty much every direction but back at yourself, which would be kind of creepy. Say hello to Panoramaist: the Toronto shoe-gazer’s worst enemy.

it’s a cool office but kind of depressing thinking about all the fun times had in there… Half-Baked Memories of Laser Floyd…

I have many fond memories of their laser shows (aside from Pink Floyd, The Beatles come to mind) as well. I also have many fond memories of school trips there. It’s a pity to see it being used as storage.

    Most depressing panorama EVAR*.
*excluding panoramas of much of the rest of the world

I’m a shoegazer, but I enjoy generally these panoramas. Should I unsubscribe?

    Toronto needs a new planetarium.

In 1992 when I was in grade 13 I got a job at the planetarium….wearing a red uniform and helping visitors get info in the astrocentre, selling tickets & watching the shows & opening the doors….the zeiss projector was a big deal back then….now you could do the same thing with a much more inexpensive projector. It’s totally baffling to me why the board at the ROM don’t get it together & fundraise to refurbish the planetarium. It’s such a unique structure to let it go to waste is just reflective of the ROM’s general overall shortsightedness. I guess they think condos are more useful there, or a warehouse.

This is a prime example of Toronto’s wasteful attitude.
The shelves could go much higher to fully use this valuable resource.

A shame that the planetarium is being used for storage. It needs to reopened!
