one day: three plays: a million awesome

2007_12_13Angel.jpeg

Necessary Angel has just announced a totally cool event planned to take place on March 3, 2008. Three playwrights will be given the opening lines for a new play. Each playwright will have 4 hours in which to write said play, after which three different teams will have 5 hours to rehearse the works. When those 5 hours are up, the plays have to be performed at Necessary Angel's annual gala at the Capitol Event Theatre. The playwrights? Morwyn Brebner (The Optimists, The Pessimist, TV's At the Hotel), Claudia Dey (Trout Stanley) and Daniel MacIvor (do you even read this blog?). The event, called one day: three plays, is to be hosted by the ridiculously talented Rick Miller (Bigger Than Jesus, MacHomer) and organized by company Artistic Director Daniel Brooks. To cap it all off, the opening lines themselves will be written by none other than internationally acclaimed playwright and screenwriter Sir Tom Stoppard. Unfortunately, you won't be able to check out one day: three plays on a pwyc Sunday. The gala is a fundraiser for Necessary Angel and, as such, ain't cheap: tickets are selling for $350.00 a pop (although that does include a three-course meal with a selection of wines all picked out by Lucy Waverman). If you can afford it, this is bound to be one of the most interesting arts fundraisers of next year.
