Hero: Breakfast Television
Torontoist is ending the year by naming our Heroes and Villains of 2007––the people, places, and things that we've either fallen head over heels in love with or developed uncontrollable rage towards over the past twelve months. Get your dose, starting Boxing Day and running into the new year, three times a day––sunrise, noon, and sunset.

Is there anything as satisfying as waking up to that little dancing alarm clock every morning on Breakfast Television?
Some may scoff and suggest that BT doesn't provide the same in-depth news coverage and analysis of their competitors, but that's not what BT's all about, is it? BT revels in its devotion to Toronto, and its peculiar minutiae, something their competition could learn a thing or two from. What Kevin, Dina, Frank, Tracy, and Jennifer bring to the table is a thoroughly entertaining mix of chemistry and charm, which can be summed up in what will surely be the most popular made-up buzzword of 2008: charm-istry.
Even if you don't agree that the show is hugely entertaining (in which case you are a damn dirty liar), it's hard to dispute the positive impact of their tireless charitable work on behalf of Toronto's Daily Bread Food Bank. The gang has supported the food bank in a variety of ways this year, with their "BT and Citynews Spirit of the Season" show, and their "BT and Citynews Christmas Tree Deal" where they sold trees for donations to Daily Bread.
Of course, BT's Holiday Favourites CD benefiting the food bank featured stellar performances by the whole gang. Torontoist got a copy of the CD for Christmas, and Frank Ferragine's jaunty rendition of "Let It Snow" was worth the cost of the entire album. His vocal stylings recall a young and insouciant William Shatner at his euphonious best.
It's not just charitable work that we're lauding them for. We wrote earler this year about BT host Kevin Frankish saving (sort of) a woman trapped in her bedroom! It seems heroism just comes naturally to Breakfast Television.

I have a moustache crush on Kevin Frankish!
you are spot on there, totally agree -- it's BT's 'devotion to toronto' ... that makes it so fantastic. I really like what they've done with the show over the last year or so ....Dina is rocking it with Kevin and the rest of the crew working together really harks to classic CityTV brilliance. top one!
I'd like to agree with you on most counts but I have to add that the product placements on their set is just awful. All those cans of coffee or
glass containers of orange juice make it look like some tawdry programming from Cincinnati or some got-forsaken place like Pocatello Idaho.
Please get them to get rid of those things and try to get advertisers who don't need on-screen placements.
Otherwise, I rather like the program for what it offers.
Breakfast Television is the bane of my existence. Jennifer Valentyne is particularly obnoxious. Maybe I'm just not a morning person?
I LOVE Breakfast Television. Over the years I have gotten to know a bunch of people down there. I've gotten to know Kevin, Tracy, Jenn, and Liza when she was there. I also know Kevin, their segment producer quite well. And I'd just like to say that these people are the nicest people you'll ever meet. I am an insipiring television journalist and for one, Tracy is being such a great role model for me. Kevin, Jenn, and Kevin their producer are also such nice and warm people who are being great role models as well. I have also met Dina and Frank and they couldn't be more humble. BT is a huge success and a legendary television show and nobody in Toronto can come close to it in any sense. I LOVE BREAKFAST TELEVISION!!!!!!
