Defacer

condo_hack_5.jpg

Former Torontoist contributor Ted Healey came across a great find at the Wellesley & Ontario condo and townhouse development known as "The Star of Downtown." Previously the subject of an Ugly Stick here on Torontoist, the condo's advertisements have seen plenty of scorn since they were put up. The latest addition to the front facade is thanks to someone named Defy, who has decided to give a voice to the gay urban professionals artificially posed around their sweet new townhouses.

Says Ted over at Dead Robot:

Up on Wellesley, this poor development has had a hard time of selling to the masses, due to the neighbours: Jamestown is right across the street and I guess they’re not appreciating their property values rising. When they first erected the sales office, it was tagged within hours. Then constantly paint bombed/spray painted almost nightly. Mostly stuff about how affordable housing was needed rather than gentrification.

Then this subtle attraction appeared (since gone). See the big photoshopped “condo scene” of young gay males enjoying their new patio, just there on the left of the photo? An adventurous artist added to the photo for social awareness.

See more photos, all courtesy of Ted, after the fold.

I love a good billboard defacing... Did they seriously put a lei around that guy's neck? Who does that?

Newsflash: Tons of gay people live in Jamestown because it's cheap and village adjacent.

Anyways, is it so horrible to have a condo near to affordable housing? Would they rather we put the cheap apartments in one area, and the more affluent people over in another? I'd rather we put them close together and show how well we can get along.

Of course I'm not excusing the ad's excessive whiteness.
