Stylizing With Misshapes

On September 4, the The Misshapes released their style book, and the trio of trend-setting, New Wave rock-producing New Yorkers are hitting Toronto on Thursday, September 6 in celebration of its release.

Who are The Misshapes? Known for their weekly Saturday night parties—the "best in hipster Manhattan" since February 2004—these musicians (and cutting-edge fashion influences) have established themselves as "an intersection of music, art, and fashion." The Misshapes are Greg Krelenstein, Leigh Lezark, and Geordon Nicol, and they have performed for institutions ranging from the Whitney Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art to fashion monoliths like Chanel, Versace and Calvin Klein.

Collected from 2001 to 2007, the book documents five years of the ever-changing sadomasochistic face of fashion in downtown New York, bringing together 288 pages of over 3,000 fashion portraits. Photographers include Nick Zinner, Karl Lagerfeld, Leigh Lezark, and Micah Welner, with some appearances by Interpol, Arcade Fire, Madonna, M.I.A., Metric, Patrick Wolf, Bloc Party, Peaches, Yoko Ono, and many, many more. Vogue's Sally Singer also contributes to the book via text along with musician Jarvis Cocker and writer Legs McNeil.

The party starts tomorrow, September 6, at Fly (8 Gloucester Street). The Misshapes will host a DJ set along with Sebastian Grainger (DFA 1979!), Jackson Pollis, Crystal Castles, and a surprise guest performance. The book retails for a hefty $33.50. Getting in will cost you $10; doors open at 9 p.m.

Dragonette is also playing. I'm assuming they're the surprise guests.

$33.50 for 288 pages? Not ridiculous for a hardcover book of fashion photography. Arty books *cost.*

Nicol is also a local boy.
