The Daily Photoist: Global Climate Change “Those Lazy Hazy Crazy Days Of Summer”

Every weekday, we pick an image from the Torontoist Flickr Pool and feature it here on the site. It’s our way to give the many excellent photographers in our pool the attention they deserve!

After running around a city in sweltering heat, the intense colours inking the sky during a sunset can bring a sensation of calm. In this photo by Metrix X, the horizon melds into the intense orange and gives the impression of a single surface. As beautiful and enhanced as the colour saturation may be, this is a reminder that beautiful skies are often the work of our smog.

    I’ve added “enhanced” to the description text, but nobody’s claiming that our Daily Photoist images are unretouched by the photographer—in fact, most photos look pretty crappy without some finessing (much of which is done in-camera for consumer-level ones).

    Looks like a terrible 20-cent postcard. Down with image-processing! If you can’t take a good photo without Photoshop, you’re probably not a very good photographer.
