Hotel Is Dead! Long Live Their Gear!

2007_08_08hotelband.jpg Generally, it’s not very nice to take advantage of the misfortune of others. Sometimes though, the deal is just too good to pass up. (Liquidation World has built a business out of it: “A hurricane came through and you reap the benefits!”)

Local band Hotel has decided to call it quits. And since this means they don’t need their equipment anymore, they’re selling it all this weekend. The resulting list, itemized on their website, is a gear slut’s dream come true. Everything from cables and mic stands for under $10 to a $1600 pre-amp and compressor and a $6000 drum kit is up for grabs. The rest of the list includes effects pedals, lighting equipment, MIDI components, digital recording interfaces, guitar stands, mixers, keyboards, guitars, speakers and cases; the prices are lower than anywhere else you'd find this stuff, too.

2007_08_08mic.jpgSome of the more notable items include a gorgeous-looking mic that was handmade by The Polyphonic Spree’s bassist (“it makes whatever you’re recording sound old,” says the website) and a Moog analog delay that's one of only 250 made.

And if sound gear isn't your thing, you might still find something you want—like a cat. Under "Miscellaneous," there's a listing for "Cat, Orange." He's two years old and offers "lack of affection" and a "bad attitude."

The sale is happening this Saturday from 12–4 p.m. at 188 Spadina Ave., unit #3. If there's something you just have to have, email the band at hotelisdead@unspace.ca and they'll reserve it for you.

Update: Don't email them. They got over 500 emails, so they're not reserving anything. You'll just have to show up and try and grab your stuff in the free-for-all.
