Insufficient Road Repair This Year, David Miller Leaves NDP, and What’s Up With My Blackberry?

crunchyroad.jpg
City Hall ups the road repair budget this year to $230 million, and at the same time admits that it’s not even close to being enough to reduce the backlog of required repairs. There ought to be a word that auto-defines as “the debilitating effects of when Toronto doesn’t get enough federal and municipal funding,” so we could all just say it and save ourselves some breath. Like, “klunge” could be shorthand for that phrase, so when another story like this shows up next week (as we all know it will), we could just say “massive klunge.” And we would nod knowingly.
David Miller lets his NDP membership lapse. However, he’s quick to mention that he doesn’t have anything against the NDP and that the NDP are still cool and all. He just, you know, forgot to send in the card.
Back-to-work legislation forcing CN Rail employees to stop striking passed in Ottawa. Torontoist is sure that will solve all the labour problems at CN.
Ontario MPPs receive another raise. Their pay is now tied to MP pay, so they received a two percent raise on top of the 25 percent raise they got just before Christmas.
Mass system failure knocks out Blackberrys across the western hemisphere. It’s really kind of amusing that the CBC filed this under local Toronto news. Because in Toronto, we all check our Blackberrys every five minutes because it’s the big city and we’re very important people.
And the Jays beat Daisuke Matsuzaka and the Red Sox 2-1 in a squeaker of a game.

    “Klunge” Massive Klunge.
    Brilliant.
The Blackberry thing explains why my email has been so eerily quiet. I don’t but everyone else seems to have one!

Or it could be the problem of having an NDP council that won’t control costs, won’t take control of its budget, and is more focused on throwing tantrums than on getting things done (that last is a universal trait of everyone on council). That we have a “green” councillor of one of the 2 core wards opposing “vertical sprawl” and nearly every development in his ward (at least that’s what he campaigned on) shows how useless council is, as is the abject surrender to TTC unions.
Other governments might be willing to work with the city if it looked responsible, but since all it does is whine and throw tantrums, why bother? What kind of idiot thought that suing the provincial government that can disestablish Toronto at a whim was either a good or legitimate idea?
Until Toronto residents pay the same property tax as Oakville rsidents (drastically more expensive), council should STFU.
