That Surfer Dude Sure Has Game

nash.jpgSteve Nash looked as out of place as ever on Sunday afternoon after wrestling the NBA’s MVP trophy away from perennial heavyweights, Shaquille O’Neal and Allan Iverson. With the trio all adding spectacular seasons to their resumes in 04-05, it was the Canadian who took home the hardware. The Victoria, BC native edged O’Neal by seven first-place votes, in what proved to be the fourth-closest tally in the past twenty-five years. Only the sixth guard to win the award, Nash will now join the names of Bob Cousy, Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Allen Iverson in the league’s history books. Nash and former Chicago Bull, Bill Wennington are the only Canadians to ever win the award… OK, just checking if you were paying attention.

    Sorry ladies, according to fellow MVP candidate Shaquille O’Neal, our basketball playing, well coiffed boy is married.
    Strangely enough, a panel I spotted on TVO with journalists Steve Brunt and Bruce Dowbiggin (good sportswriters both) wasn’t sure that he’d gotten married, so there’s hope yet?
