Playwright and actor Linda Griffiths passed away earlier this month, after a battle with cancer. Especially beloved on the Toronto theatre scene, she’d been creating thought-provoking plays for herself and others since the 1980s, including her 1980 solo show Maggie & Pierre; 1997’s Alien Creature, about poet Gwendolyn MacEwen; and 2013’s Heaven Above Heaven Below, which featured Griffiths’s last performance. Theatre Passe Muraille, with which she’d had a long-standing creative relationship, is hosting an open-to-all public memorial. Should the theatre fill up, Factory Theatre (two blocks south on Bathurst) will be an overflow space featuring a simulcast, which will be posted on Theatre Passe Muraille’s website.
