British-born concert promoter Richard Flohil’s been championing Toronto and Canadian music acts for a long, long time—since the late ’50s, when he’d been in Canada less than a week. He has lifetime achievement and special recognition awards from SOCAN (the Canadian recording industry) and Folk Music Ontario; helped produce most of the music festivals in the province; and discovered artists like Loreena McKennitt, Justin Rutledge, and Shakura S’Aida. For his 80th birthday party, a slew of great local artists are performing, including S’Aida, Corin Raymond, Miranda Mulholland, and many more.
