FIELD NOTES: | One of the draws of being a graffiti artist is that they answer to no one while still having their work be visible to a large audience. No rules or regulations guide their hand, and they thrive on the freedom to simply create. This freedom sometimes leads to unsightly work (not everyone who yearns to paint has the skill right off the bat), but often it leads to beautiful and odd creations—like this mural. It’s an unusual and delightful burst of colour that feels like a painted collage of shape and style. The whimsical joy it brings to its surroundings has an air abandon that comes from a lack of guidelines. |
