We do love our history.
Torontoist leads the way in the annual Heritage Toronto Awards in the Short Publication category.
Led by three nominations from Historicist, Torontoist‘s award-winning Saturday history column, the publication is proud to have five nominations. BlogTO, the Toronto Star, the Annex Gleaner, Fife and Drum, Canadian Rail Magazine, Why I Love Toronto, and the Canadian Journal of Urban Research also received nominations.
Last year, Torontoist won the top two awards in its category at the annual ceremony as Jamie Bradburn and David Wencer received recognition for their articles on voting rights in Toronto and a profile of the High Park mineral baths, respectively.
Of special note is that this year will mark the first nomination for former (and longtime) Historicist contributor Kevin Plummer. As a former board member of Heritage Toronto, Plummer was not eligible for past awards; we’re thrilled to see him nominated this year. Plummer moved out west earlier this year for a job opportunity.
Alongside Torontoist Deputy Editor Erica Lenti, Samira Mohyeddin received her first Heritage Toronto nomination for an article that looked back at Pride’s origins. Will Sloan also received his first nomination for an oral history of TIFF.

The Heritage Toronto Awards and Kilbourn Lecture take place on Monday, October 17. General admission tickets are $35 and $25 for Heritage Toronto members.
