WHERE: Barbara Hall Park, 519 Church Street

WHEN: Sunday, June 12, 8 p.m.

WHAT: Hundreds of LGBTQ Torontonians and allies gathered at Barbara Hall Park in the city’s Church-Wellesley Village to mourn the loss of 50 Floridians after a man stormed Orlando gay nightclub Pulse in the largest mass shooting in U.S. history early Sunday morning. Organized by “queer nun” collective Toronto Sisters, the vigil saw in attendance some of the country’s most outspoken LGBTQ politicians, including Premier Kathleen Wynne and Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam (Ward 27, Toronto Centre-Rosedale). “Someone asked me the other day, ‘Why Pride?'” Wynne told the crowd. “Well, because of Orlando… That’s why Pride.”
