Another rainbow flag goes up in Toronto.
WHERE: Queen’s Park Front Lawn, 111 Wellesley Street
WHEN: Tuesday, June 1, 9 a.m.
WHAT: On a sunny morning during a welcome break from the heat, folks gathered at the Courtesy Flagpole on the Queen’s Park front lawn to witness the raising of the Pride flag on the first day of Canada’s first-ever Pride Month. Pride Toronto directors made comments reflecting on the history of Pride in Toronto—from the horror of the bathhouse raids of the past to the excitement of potentially breaking the record for the largest drag show in Dundas Square later this month. There were also vows that throughout June, the sometimes misunderstood and ill-supported trans community would receive special focus. The flag-raising ceremony was the second in Toronto this week, following yesterday’s event at City Hall.
