The 2016 Dora Mavor Moore Awards nominations were announced today, and their producing organization Toronto Alliance of Performing Arts’ website crashed due to the web traffic. However, Intermission Magazine has the full nominee list.
Some key points: as the Globe and Mail‘s Kelly Nestruck noted, all five of the Outstanding Production nominees in the general category are Canadian; in the independent category, Quebecois holiday musical La Chasse-Galerie and revenge thriller Butcher (which both made Torontoist‘s best of 2015 list) had multiple nominations; and in the musical category, mirroring Friday’s announcement of the Toronto Theatre Critics Awards, Kinky Boots led in nominations, but there were surprise nominations for One Night Only, an improvised show.
The award nominations were announced on May 30, not May 29.
