#ICYMI, Sound Advice provides a roundup of noteworthy musical happenings in the city some call The 6ix.
River Tiber: As the march towards a full-length album continues, Toronto producer-artist River Tiber (real name Tommy Paxton-Beesley) dropped a couple of new cuts to hold us over. The Red Bull Sound Select artist brings along for the ride Canadian producers Kaytranada and Doc McKinney and American rapper Pusha T for tracks like “Illusions” and “Gravity.” The Kaytranada co-production on the song “Gravity” in particular is symbolic of Tiber’s musical approach—R&B-inspired groove sounds that are heavy on bass licks and synth keys.
Drake: As someone who needs no introduction—or Sound Advice call outs for that matter—we would be remiss if we didn’t note that the date for Drake’s forthcoming full length, Views from the 6, has been locked in (April 29). And ICYMI, to tide us over, the OVO architect dropped singles “Pop Style” and “One Dance.” The former features Jay Z and Kanye West (The Throne) over a grimy groove and the latter offers us a dancehall-inspired flow with Kyla and Wizkid. We await the end of the month to see if his latest album effort is worthy of all the hype.
