Torontonians Prioritize Relief Line, Restaurant Opens City’s First Selfie Room, and Puppy Stolen at Gunpoint Goes Home

Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not to miss.

  • Torontonians want a Downtown Relief Line, and believe it should be built ahead of the Scarborough subway extension and Mayor John Tory’s SmartTrack, according to a new poll. More than half of the respondents to the survey, issued on behalf of the Toronto Relief Line Alliance, say the Relief Line should be the city’s highest transit priority. If the City jumps on the Relief Line bandwagon first, Torontonians could be riding the subway across Queen Street as soon as… 2026.
  • Get your selfie stick ready (or maybe don’t): a restaurant slated to open in Parkdale this spring will be home to Toronto’s first selfie room. Doomie’s, a vegan joint hailing from Los Angeles, has a room decorated with works by artist Vegan Sidekick, where customers can host a selfie shoot after downing a burger and fries. Why exactly a specific room is needed for selfie taking is beyond us, but we’re sure the youths will love it.
  • It was a true show of puppy love as a Rottweiler-lab was reunited with its mother and owners after being stolen at gunpoint. The puppy, Karma, was taken by four men armed with a shotgun after a Toronto breeder posted an ad on Kijiji to purchase the animal. The pup was found at the home of the alleged thief, and police have charged two men involved in the case (who are likely muttering to themselves, “Karma’s a bitch”). Two others, however, have still not been apprehended.
