|FIELD NOTES:||There’s an old stereotype of the depressed artist: the romanticized idea of a creative soul tormented into crafting beauty. We think it’s time to put that stereotype to rest. It glorifies a terrible condition and makes artists feel like they need to suffer through their depression, or, if they aren’t artists, they aren’t justified in seeking help. We should work toward talking more openly about mental health and removing the stigma of seeking aid. If you’re experiencing the above symptoms, you’re not alone, and there are resources out there for you.|
