Agreement awaits approval from union members and council, inside workers still negotiating.
The bargaining team representing Toronto’s outside workers and the City has reached a tentative agreement.
The potential agreement, which has yet to be ratified, could avert a strike or lockout for garbage pickup east of Yonge Street, and would represent the second consecutive contract without a labour stoppage.
Local 416 members still have to vote to approve the deal, which has been recommended by their union representatives. City Council would also have to vote to approve the deal.
Details of the deal are not yet available. Local 79, which represents the City’s inside workers, continues to negotiate with the City in advance of its 12:01 a.m. deadline tonight.
