|FIELD NOTES:||Of the street artists we know versus the non-street artists, both categories feature very talented folk, but those who do street art are disproportionately better known and successful than those who don’t. The exposure from putting themselves directly in the public eye, mixed with the rogue hipness that befalls anyone with the skills to paint more than a hasty squiggle adds up to a certain amount of “sellability,” or at least notoriety. Legalities and nuisance aside, being a street artist (particularly in Toronto where the pool is relatively shallow compared to other major cities) can put you on the fast track to artistic success! So there you have it, kids. If you want to be a successful artist when you grow up keep drawing on walls and angering grown-ups!|
