A suspect has been arrested in the 1990 murder of Surinder Singh Parmar, a Penny’s Gas Bar employee who was found stabbed to death at the east end gas station November 19. Ruper Richards, 61, has been charged with first-degree murder in the case, and is expected to return to court next week. The arrest marks the first breakthrough of the Toronto Police Service’s Never Give Up project, a new initiative that encourages officers to use new technologies to investigate unsolved crimes.

The 14th Annual Scotiabank Giller Bash awarded André Alexis yesterday evening for his novel, Fifteen Dogs. The ceremony was hosted by Buzzfeed senior writer Scaachi Koul and The Dead Kid Detective Agency series author/illustrator (and Torontoist contributor) Evan Munday at Daniels Spectrum auditorium.

Toronto police have announced a fourth and fifth incident of tainted Halloween candy in the Toronto area. A staple and sewing needle were found inside chocolate bars in the Rexdale and Dufferin/Eglinton areas, respectively. Police are urging parents to check all Halloween candy.
