|FIELD NOTES:||As I write this column I am on vacation halfway around the world. Usually, when arriving in a new city, I start at airports on the outskirts of my destination. One of my favourite things about traveling into urban centres from the landing points is getting to observe fantastic arrays of graffiti that, almost without exception, line the train tracks and highways that lead into cities. It’s an art show that’s accessible to all commuters, a preview for the excitement of arriving somewhere new and a taste of the local culture.
We’re very glad to see graffiti lining the train tracks of Toronto. It’s nice to know the anticipation we feel when arriving somewhere new can also be felt by those visiting Toronto.
Once a week, Vandalist features some of the most interesting street art and graffiti from around Toronto. Find something great? Email [email protected].
