SCENE: Lady Wrestlers Throw Down

A performance art showdown for '90s kids weaned on pro-wrestling confronted gender stereotypes on Toronto Island.

WHERE: Artscape Gibraltar Point, Toronto Island

WHEN: Friday, September 18, 7:00 p.m.-late.

WHAT: The League of Lady Wrestlers (as the name suggests, an amateur wrestling crew of female-identifying grapplers) threw down at the south lawn of Toronto Island’s Artscape Gibraltar Point with the purpose of confronting, and lampooning, the patriarchy. The result was a sporty performance art extravaganza that invited spectators to check their preconceptions of professional wrestling at the proverbial door.
