Here we go, everyone: back-to-school woes in the public system, Toronto loses a youth shelter, and the Blue Jays lose a game. On the bright side, the City might have forgiven your parking ticket!

It’s the day after Labour Day and many throughout the province are on their way to the first day of school. Ontario’s public schools continue to be plagued by conflicts over the new sex ed curriculum and ongoing labour issues with Francophone teachers, elementary school teachers, and education workers.
While some kids are heading back to school, the over 2000 homeless youth in Toronto face a further loss of stability, as money troubles are forcing Scarborough’s only youth centre to close. Second Base Youth Shelter, the second-largest of its kind in Toronto, has run into “a combination” of financial issues, and help from the City hasn’t been enough to keep them afloat. One user of the shelter expressed shock and disappointment, saying “I don’t want to sleep outside and have to beg people for change, or a shower, or something like that.”
The Toronto Blue Jays’ lead in the AL East dropped to half a game on Labour Day following an 11-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox, and a Yankees victory. Southpaw Mark Buerhle was on the mound after seven days’ rest, but Boston batters got to him early and often.
It’s not *all* bad, though: the City cancelled some 880,000 parking tickets issued between 2002 and 2014.
