In the news: two charged in VIA derailing plot face life in prison, Mississauga-area doctors charged with fraud, and shooting victim slapped with gun-related charges following Sunday's attack.

Two men convicted on terrorism charges for plotting to derail a Via passenger train traveling from Toronto to New York in 2012 have been sentenced to life in prison. Superior Court of Justice Judge Michael Code found Raed Jaser and Chiheb Esseghaier guilty of conspiring to commit murder in association with a terrorist group, and said, “I am satisfied that life imprisonment is the appropriate sentence,” noting the two showed no remorse and have yet to renounce their jihadist ideology.
Two Mississauga-area doctors have been charged with fraud after allegedly receiving payment for services that were never conducted. An investigation conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police found that radiologist Dr. Mukesh Jain and surgeon Dr. Minto Jain from MIC Medical Imaging were billing customers for medical services that it did not conduct. Mukesh Jain and Minto Jain have been charged with fraud over $5000, and will appear in court November 19.
A man shot in a downtown steakhouse Sunday night has been charged with nine gun-related offences. Twenty-nine-year-old Terry Nguyen, who is believed to have been targeted, is facing charges including possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition and careless storage of a firearm. A female victim who was also shot is expected to survive.
