- The NXT City Prize, which is awarded to innovative urban design ideas for Toronto, has been awarded to a proposal to create modular urban docks. Built on the city’s breakwaters, the Urban Dock project would “[transport] Ontario’s lake landscapes to the city—bringing fishing, swimming, skating, and cottage culture within reach for all,” according to the project statement. The initiative would also protect the shoreline from coastal erosion. Clint Langevin and Ya’el Santopinto will share the $5,000 award, and time will tell to see if the projected gets implemented.
- Hockey analyst Don Cherry and sidekick Ron MacLean are among the inductees in this year’s class of Canada’s Walk of Fame. The Walk of Fame, located on King Street, will also induct Olympic medallist Silken Laumann, author Lawrence Hill, and actor Lorne Greene. They are much less likely to receive attention on their big day, but probably have a lot more smart things to say. Ah, celebrity!
- The TTC is trying out a pilot project to make life easier for cyclists. The transit commission will install bike repair stations at 10 stops this week at a cost of $1,000 per station. It means that for the 11 per cent of transit user who also bike, they can pump their tires or tighten screws in a handy location. The TTC will evaluate the project at a later date to see if it should be rolled out further.

Joe Bowen confirmed a Sunday report from Toronto Sports Media that he and Jim Ralph are being kicked off the team plane—now designated as a media-free zone—and will now be doing their play-by-play while watching on TV. But team co-owners Bell and Rogers ponied up for commercial flights after word of their cheapo strategy got out. (Want more 12:36? Subscribe to it now.)
