Extra, Extra: The Black Panther, a Whiff of Toronto, and a Rat Who Knows Too Much
Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not to miss.

- Author, national correspondent for The Atlantic, and not-so-secret comics nerd Ta-Nehisi Coates has been called upon to revive the Marvel Comics superhero, Black Panther, in a series set to launch next year. The news was released today along with an image of the comic’s cover…which, as some local Tweeters were quick to point out, includes an edifice that bears a striking resemblance to Toronto’s own City Hall. You know what they say about imitation.
- What does Toronto smell like? The Star is on it. With the help of a perfumer, the paper went on a “site-smelling” tour, and determined that Old City Hall smells musty, the Redpath Sugar refinery smells like roasted marshmallow, and the ferry terminal smells like algae with “essences of sunscreen.”
- Two pet store employees were stabbed after an altercation with an alleged shoplifter who had a white rat. Three people allegedly lifted items at a store at Yonge and Wellesley, and two employees chased them. After catching up with the shoplifters, a physical altercation ensued, and a woman pulled out a knife. Police urge the public to contact them with information about the rat-supporting trio.
