Extra, Extra: Beer Coming to GTA Supermarkets, Jays Playoff Tickets on Sale, and Beavertails are on their Way

Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not to miss.

  • Kathleen Wynne announced a new deal between Queens Park and the Beer Store this morning at the Mill Street Brew Pub that heralds the arrival of beer in Ontario supermarkets by Christmas. By late fall 450 of Ontario’s 1500 supermarkets will be able to stock brews for the same cost as LCBO and Beer Store locations. Craft beer lovers will be excited to learn that 20 per cent of shelf space will be reserved for independent brewers. With the government projected to make roughly $10 million in licensing sales, it looks to be a win-win for beer lovers and policy makers alike.
  • Looking to witness baseball history? Playoff tickets will be available to the general public on Thursday morning. Fans will be stationing themselves by their computer screens for 10:00 a.m. when they can begin to purchase tickets for the October 6 Wild Card game and the October 8-14 Divisional Series. With the Jays a virtual lock to play the post season and fan fever at an all time high, you’ll have to act fast to score a coveted seat.
  • The well-loved artery-clogging Ottawa snack chain, Beavertails, will be setting up a storefront in Toronto this fall. For those not in the know, the snack is a puff-pastry covered in any number of toppings from sugar to Nutella. The shop is set to open at the bottom of York Street on the Queens Quay, for those looking to get their sugar fix.
