There's lots of terrible news today. Two shot dead at an OVO Fest after party, Caribana Creepers, and a "bullying" councillor follows UberX.
Two people were shot dead and three more were seriously injured at an OVO Fest afterparty held at Muzik nightclub at the Exhibition Place. The dead, one man and one woman, were in their 20s and 30s. Police are appealing to the public for more information about the shooting.
Four men reportedly creeped female participants at Saturday’s annual Caribana parade, with one appearing to take photos of butts from a camera on his belt. Photos of the men were take and posted to social media with the hashtag #CaribanaCreepers in an appeal to identify the men in question. A police report has been filed.
After spotting an UberX vehicle last Friday, Jim Karygiannis (Ward 39, Scarborough-Agincourt) did the logical thing: he followed the car and berated the driver. The passenger described the first-term councillor to Metro as “very aggressive, very angry,” and her father came outside to tell him to get off the property. That father, Hamlin Grange, happens to be a former member of the Toronto Police Services Board. The daughter says she plans to file a complaint with the City’s integrity commissioner. The contentious UberX service will be up for debate at council in the fall; Karygiannis is one of its most vocal opponents.
